Welcome to Dore & Totley Golf Club

Mel Fox - President

This is my second year as President of Dore & Totley Golf Club and I am both proud and honoured to have the opportunity to serve and represent this great golf club once again.

2018 saw the club progress with the course continuing to be maintained to a high standard and small but significant improvements being carried out within and outside the club house.

Dore & Totley Golf Club has been recognised throughout the region as being one of the best maintained courses and providing a great challenge for all levels of golfers.

All this could not have been possible if not for the efforts of our green and club house staff assisted by our members who have volunteered to carry out various tasks such as painting, repair work, litter picking, divot replacement and general tidying up works all of which allows the staff to concentrate on their core works.

Membership during 2018 increased thanks to a successful marketing campaign which culminated in the club holding a “Open Weekend” for prospective members. From this we acquired over forty new members.

Dore & Totley has had for many years a no closure policy but unfortunately members and visitors sometimes were not allowed on the course with buggies. However, the club have now installed new path ways throughout the course and this now allows access for buggies throughout the winter unless there are extreme weather circumstances.

Our Sheffield Union of Golf Clubs League team achieved back to back promotions when winning the Division 4 title last year. It is a very enjoyable evening watching the team play and members are encouraged to come and support them both home and away on Wednesday evenings.

We have first class practice facilities with our outdoor area and the teaching studio within the club professionals’ shop. Steve Roberts and his team work tirelessly throughout the year organising many competitions and 2018 saw an increase in the number of Sunday Medals and Stableford competitions being staged. Steve also works with our Academy Members and Juniors.

I would like to congratulate our new Club Captain Lionel Clarke and also our Ladies Captain Sherry Newbould and wish them both a happy and successful year.

Finally, I look forward to meeting as many of our members and visitors during the year and wish you all good golfing!

Lionel Clarke - Captain

To be chosen as your new captain for 2019 was indeed  a surprise, something which gave me great pride to accept.

With a membership now approaching 400, Dore & Totley Golf Club has a fabulous course for all to enjoy playing on.  It is thanks to our greens committee which has put in a lot of hard work to present our course in such a fine condition.

As well as being your captain, I am still involved in the social section, and look forward to working with our social committee in organizing as many new and interesting evenings of entertainment as possible.  For our club to prosper, we really do need as many members to attend these evenings so as to make them viable.

It is particularly pleasing to see our ladies section nearly double in size over the last 12 months, and I look forward to compete with them in the forthcoming mixed competitions.

Finally I would like to wish Mel Fox, our President, Mrs. Sherry Newbould, our Lady Captain, and my vice captain Phil Owen a most enjoyable 2019.

Lionel Clarke – Club Captain

Sherry Newbold - Ladies’ Captain

Having been a member for more than 20 years, I am happy to represent the ladies section and guide them through the coming 12 months. With changes to both the rules and the handicapping system in 2020, it is a very exciting time for golf.

Our course has never been better, with the new paths, hard work done by both the Greens staff and the Professional golfing staff, now paying great dividends.

I welcome old and new members alike, and visitors, to a good golfing year in 2019.
